Accounting and Finance in the Nonprofit Sector: A Conversation

Odell Talks with Gebrina Roberts: Part I

Rather than only write about this field and discipline, I wanted to infuse the subject matter with some “personality” and “relatability.” Often those professionals who are subject matter experts or practitioners with tremendous knowledge are not able to express themselves in a way that people who do NOT sit inside that field can relate.

This is a serious blindspot when it comes to making many elements of accounting and finance accessible to the very people who really need to understand what it means so they can make good decisions about their businesses. I want to try and address this blindspot in a way that is a reflection of who I am and how I think about all the work I do.

I am hoping through my website to be able to provide many different ways of expressing some ideas and observations as it relates to a variety of topics including accounting and finance.

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to talk with a good friend and colleague who I have known professionally and personally for over a decade.  Gebrina Roberts is a knowledgeable bookkeeper and accountant with extensive hands-on experience working with nonprofit organizations.

I believe our conversation speaks for itself in terms of “how we roll” and what is important when thinking about accounting and finance within your organization.

Thanks and stay tuned for more.
